Jonas Jud, born in 1997 in St. Gallen, Switzerland, began his vocal studies in 2014 with Svetlana Afonina. To complete his studies and to improve his Italian he decided to move to Italy to study classical singing at the conservatory of music Agostino Steffani in Castelfranco Veneto with Prof Enrico Rinaldo. To pursue his Masters Jonas Jud studied at the Yale School of Music in the studio of Adriana Zabala where he graduated in May 2022.

His first stage experience was in 2015 when he won the first prize at the “Schweizerischer Jugendmusikwettbewerb” in Switzerland followed by his debut as Caronte in the opera L’Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi in 2016 at the ouverture-opera-production in Sion, Switzerland. Shortly after, he received the Grand-Prix at the Young Vocalists Competition in Syktyvkar, Russia, which marked a big step towards his career as an opera singer.

Since 2018 he has appeared as Truffaldin in Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss and Skomorokh/3rd Sailor in The Tale of Tsar Saltan by N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov at the 30^th & 31^st Isny-Opera Festival in Germany, as Colline in La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini at the Opernspiele Munot-Festival in Schaffhausen, Switzerland and as Sarastro in The Magic Flute by W.A. Mozart at the Teatro Civico di Schio.

Since the Covid Pandemic Jonas Jud has performed Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte at Yale Opera and covers Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro and Theseus in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Singer. He recently won first prize at the NSA Student Auditions 2021, the Grand Prize at the MIOpera international competition 2021.

In 2022 Jonas Jud was a Grand Finalist at the Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition of the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

In addition to his opera performances he has had the opportunity to sing various concerts in many places in Europe.

Jonas Jud wurde am 25.01.1997 in St. Gallen geboren. Während seiner Zeit im Gymnasium Trogen besuchte er den Gesangsunterricht bei Svetlana Afonina. Mit der Rolle des Sarastro an der Schulaufführung der ‹Zauberflöte‹ von W. A. Mozart sammelte er seine ersten Bühnenerfahrungen. Der 1. Preis im Finale des Schweizerischen Jugendmusikwettbewerbs in Lugano 2015 war ein weiterer Schritt auf seinem musikalischen Weg. Sein erstes Engagement verpflichtete ihn im Sommer 2016 während zwei Monaten in Sion unter der Organisation ‘ouverture-opéra’ und der Leitung von Roberto Festa, Olivia Seigne und Jean-Luc Follonjer mit der Rolle des Caronte in der Oper ‹L’ORFEO‹ von C. Monteverdi. Im November desselben Jahres wurde Jonas Jud am ‘XV International Olga Sosnovskaya Young Vocalists Contest’ in Syktyvkar-Russland der ‘Grand-Prix’ verliehen. Ein weiteres Highlight war das Konzert ‹Sterne von morgen› 2017 im Rittersaal des Schloss Hohenems und im Reichshofsaal Lustenau.

Im Juni 2018 sang er bei den 30. Isny Opernfestival in Deutschland, sang er in der Oper ‹Ariadne auf Naxos‹ die Rolle des Truffaldin unter der Leitung von Hans-Christian Hauser. Im darauffolgenden August sang er bei Opernspiele Munot in Schaffhausen-Schweiz in der Neuproduktion der Oper ‘La Bohème’ von Giacomo Puccini an der Seite von Mihail Mihailov und Sabina Bisholt die Rolle des Colline unter der Leitung von Wiktor Bockmann. Im Oktober desselben Jahres hatte er die Ehre mit dem weltberühmten Organisten und Komponisten Jean Guillou in Villasanta-Italien das für Bass-Solo und Orgel komponierte Werk ‹L’Infinito‹ erstmals aufzunehmen. Anfangs Dezember gab er sein Operndebut in Italien als ‹Sarastro‹ im Teatro Civico di Schio.

Das Jahr 2019 begann mit einer weiteren Aufführung der gleichen Produktion der ‹Zauberflöte› im Teatro Bagnoli di Sopra. Im Juni folgte ein weiterer Auftritt bei der 31. Isny-Oper als Skomoroch in der Oper ‹Das Märchen des Zar Saltan‹ mit Hans-Christian Hauser. Als Höhepunkt des Jahres folgte sein Auftritt als Solist beim Festival ‹Sulle Vie del Prosecco› mit den Moskauer Solisten unter der Leitung von Yuri Bashmet.

Konzerte als Solist mit dem ‘Appenzeller Kammerorchester’ und dem ‘Academic Orchestra Lodz’ aus Polen, dem gemischten Chor Wald, dem Chor ‘Weisse Nächte’ aus Zürich und dem ‘Coro insieme Vocale città di Conegliano’ gehören als Sternmomente zu seinem Lebenslauf.

Seit September 2022 wird Jonas Jud Mitglied des Internationalen Opernstudios Zürich.

Svolge attività concertistica con l’orchestra da camera di Appenzell, con Arpeggione nel palazzo di Hohenems e il Coro Insieme vocale Città di Conegliano.
